Pendleton Correctional Facility is a maximum-security facility located in Pendleton, Indiana, housing incarcerated adult males. The facility also operates an adjacent minimum-security dormitory. While the campus has historic origins, it includes updated housing units and medical areas that support modern correctional operations. Incarcerated individuals can participate in educational programs, GED preparation, and literacy courses. Additional opportunities include substance abuse treatment, parenting courses, and vocational training in auto body repair and printing.

Staff emphasize safety, accountability, and skill development.

Role Overview

As a Correctional Casework Manager, you will supervise, train, and review the performance of Correctional Caseworkers. You will also manage a caseload of incarcerated individuals, assessing their risk and needs to develop, implement, and review their case plan.

Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provide immediate supervision to your Correctional Caseworker team for adherence to policy and procedure through the use of routine CQI assessments.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and review the performance of correctional caseworkers assigned to the unit team, assess individual strengths and weaknesses, utilize regular evaluations and frequent informal reviews of staff performance in accordance with the standards, guidelines and policies of the Department and State Personnel Department.
  • Assess each assigned offender's risks and needs utilizing the Individual Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).
  • Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.
  • Provide group and individual programming for re-entry and release as required.
  • Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.
  • Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.
  • Motivate and guide offenders towards positive, prosocial change by using creative approaches to strengthen relationships and reduce environmental risk factors.
  • Maintain high security standards in the unit and facility.
What You'll Need for Success

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Must test negative on all drug screenings.
  • Ability to write records of offenders.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage the work of the staff.
  • Ability to establish a working relationship with staff and offenders.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize conflict resolution techniques.

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

  • Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.
  • Complete all mandatory training, including all IRIS and Case Management specific training, DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
  • A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 2+ years of experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
  • Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
