Company Description St. Elizabeth | Coleman is a licensed, nonprofit adoption agency based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The organization provides comprehensive services for birth parents and adoptive parents, including preparation and ongoing support. Potential team members can expect to work in a mission-driven environment focused on ethical, child-centered adoption practices. Staff collaborate closely with families and community partners to promote safe, stable, and loving placements.

Role Description The Home Study Specialist is a full-time, office located in Greater Indianapolis. The Adoption Home Study Specialist is responsible for coordinating, reviewing, and overseeing adoption home studies for families pursuing domestic and international adoptions. This position works collaboratively with adoptive families, contract social workers, and adoption agencies to ensure all home study requirements are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with agency, state, federal, and international regulations.

The specialist serves as a primary resource and advocates for adoptive families throughout the adoption process.

Qualifications

  • Background in social work, preferably with experience in adoption, child welfare, or family services.
  • Strong assessment, interviewing, and report-writing skills to evaluate home environments and document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities to work effectively with diverse families and community partners.
  • Detail-oriented organizational and time management skills to handle multiple cases, meet deadlines, and maintain thorough records.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations governing adoption, with willingness to stay current on policy and best practices.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, exercise sound judgment, and uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency with basic office software and secure electronic record systems; comfort with learning new tools as needed.
  • MSW required.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation for local travel within Indiana, and flexibility to conduct occasional evening visits.
