AI Machine Learning Scientist
LocationThis role requires in‑office work one day per week in one of the Pulse Point locations:
Indianapolis, IN;
Atlanta, GA; or Tampa, FL. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or seek an accommodation under law.
Design, develop, evaluate, and operationalize AI and machine‑learning solutions—including Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), and agent‑based systems—to support enterprise‑scale product creation and improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain infrastructure, pipelines, and services that connect structured and unstructured data for AI applications.
- Develop reusable AI capabilities such as RAG pipelines, vector search, semantic retrieval, prompt orchestration, and agentic workflows.
- Implement evaluation frameworks and automated testing to measure model quality, accuracy, bias, safety, and performance.
- Establish monitoring, observability, and governance processes to ensure AI systems remain reliable, compliant, and aligned with Responsible AI principles.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and data science teams to integrate AI capabilities into enterprise platforms.
- Drive adoption of Responsible AI practices through audit‑ready documentation and model governance controls.
- Optimize AI systems for scalability, latency, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Support experimentation, benchmarking, and model comparison to accelerate AI innovation.
- Contribute to technical standards, architecture decisions, and best practices for enterprise AI engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.) or equivalent.
- Four or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience building and deploying LLM‐ or SLM‑based applications in production.
- Experience with Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, semantic search, and prompt engineering.
- Experience designing and implementing AI agents, tool‑calling workflows, or agentic architectures.
- Experience evaluating AI systems with automated frameworks, benchmarking, and human‑in‑the‑loop review.
- Experience building scalable AI/ML pipelines using cloud‑native architectures.
- Experience with MLOps practices (CI/CD, model deployment, monitoring, observability, drift detection).
- Proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, Tensor Flow, Lang Chain, Lang Graph, Llama Index, Hugging Face).
- Familiarity with Responsible AI principles, bias testing, explainability, and auditability.
- Experience integrating AI solutions with APIs, enterprise platforms, and distributed systems.
- Experience reviewing, testing, validating, and hardening AI‑generated code.
- Experience supporting production AI systems and driving continuous improvement.
- Experience in healthcare, regulated industry, or enterprise‑scale AI.
This is a hybrid role requiring on‑site presence at an Elevance Health location at least once per week unless specified otherwise by the hiring manager.
