We are looking for a Digital Automation Engineer to be part of the Corporate Engineering Technology Center’s Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) team. This engineer will develop and implement central automation solutions that streamline and reduce the cost of delivery for large‑scale capital projects across our API manufacturing network. The role focuses on DeltaV DCS and associated digital tools, including the DeltaV CLASS module library, digital transformation tools, and AI‑enabled delivery applications.
KeyDeliverables and Responsibilities
- Become a subject‑matter expert on Lilly’s DeltaV CLASS module library and support updates and new software to support the digital agenda.
- Develop and lead digital strategy for DeltaV transformation tools and associated AI applications.
- Create and manage use cases focused on streamlining DeltaV delivery and CSV.
- Support DeltaV architecture design using current reference standards, replication opportunities, and best practices.
- Interface with cross‑functional disciplines and stakeholders to ensure project deliverables align with and meet business requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related science discipline.
- 5+ years of process automation experience on the Emerson DeltaV platform.
- 5+ years of API/Drug Substance manufacturing experience (preferred; related manufacturing experience considered).
- Experience translating process and operational needs into digital requirements.
- Previous experience in DeltaV Batch DCS.
- Experience working within a GMP environment, including regulatory requirements and computer system validation principles.
- Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis;

- Programming experience with Python (automation scripting, front‑end design, command‑line execution, data transformation, structured data workflows).
- Strong background in automation and OT operations (DCS engineering, batch manufacturing).
- Experience with system integration, including MES; prior AVEVA PI experience preferred.
- Technical knowledge in process instrumentation, batch control, and data historians.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to collaborate across diverse teams and influence without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Potential for travel typically less than 10% — domestic and/or international.
- Position based at the Lilly Technology Center South, Indianapolis, IN.
Anticipated wage range: $66,000 – $171,600
