Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Software Engineer – Poker Tools (Quantitative Software Engineer)
Location: Indianapolis

We're building next-generation poker tools that help players study, analyze, and improve their game. This role combines software engineering, quantitative thinking, and deep poker knowledge to create products used by serious poker players.

Unlike traditional software engineering roles, success in this position requires more than strong coding skills. We're looking for someone who already understands poker strategy, enjoys solving complex problems, and can independently turn ideas into working software.

What You'll Do
  • Design and build poker analysis and training tools from concept to production.
  • Develop features that help players understand game theory, ranges, expected value (EV), and strategic decision-making.
  • Translate loosely defined product ideas into practical software solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Work closely with product and poker experts to improve the learning experience for players.
  • Apply quantitative reasoning to validate product logic and ensure strategic accuracy.
  • Leverage modern AI development tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar) to accelerate development while maintaining high engineering quality.
  • Continuously improve product performance, usability, and maintainability.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Strong practical and theoretical understanding of No-Limit Texas Hold'em poker.
  • Active poker player or someone with significant hands-on poker experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, or another quantitative discipline.
  • Strong software engineering skills with the ability to independently design, build, test, and ship production-quality software.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous problems and taking ownership from idea to implementation.
  • Strong analytical thinking and logical reasoning.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a remote, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using or developing poker solvers (e.g. Pio Solver, Monker Solver, GTO Wizard, Simple Postflop).
  • Familiarity with Game Theory Optimal (GTO), EV calculations, ranges, exploitative strategy, and solver-based analysis.
  • Knowledge of game theory algorithms such as CFR, MCCFR, MCTS, or related optimization techniques.
  • Experience building desktop applications, analytical tools, or educational software.
  • Background in competitive poker, poker coaching, or poker content creation.
  • Experience with modern AI coding workflows and agent-based development.
What Makes Someone Successful

You'll thrive in this role if you:

  • Already understand poker deeply enough to contribute from day one.
  • Enjoy solving difficult, open-ended problems without waiting for detailed instructions.
  • Can independently build high-quality software from concept to production.
  • Think quantitatively and care about the logic behind every product decision.
  • Continuously learn and embrace new technologies, including AI-powered development tools.
Why Join Us
  • Work on products used by serious poker players around the world.
  • Solve intellectually challenging problems at the intersection of poker, software engineering, and quantitative reasoning.
  • High ownership, fast iteration, and the opportunity to shape product direction.
  • Remote-first team with a strong engineering culture.
