About the Role

As the Lifeguard Lead, you will further the mission of the camp by providing supervision and ensuring a safe environment at the camp’s water activities. You will assist in the management of the physical operation of the pool facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate lifeguard staff.
  • Supervise and guard all water activities and provide surveillance to help prevent and manage injuries.
  • Provide rescues as needed and utilize first aid, CPR, and other emergency management services.
  • Understand and implement appropriate responses to changes in water conditions or weather conditions affecting the waterfront.
  • Evaluate aquatic abilities of campers and staff.
  • Assist instructional staff in program areas and ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures while in their program activity.
  • Act as reference in pool activities and assist in the delivery and supervision of all water activities and special events at the pool.
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the pool program area.
  • Conduct daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Clean pool area daily keeping it free of hazards and debris. Clean bathroom and change area daily.
  • Work with the site manager and camp director to ensure the safety of the pool and chemical levels are where they should be daily.
  • Participate enthusiastically in rainy day program activities for units.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise programs, special events, and other activities and camp functions as needed.
  • Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the pool.
  • Makes every effort to have a strong, cohesive program to provide the best program and atmosphere for the campers.
  • Follow camp rules and regulations.
  • Cleans equipment at the start of summer and cleans and stores equipment at end of summer.
  • Other duties may be reassessed and other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications
  • Current certification in lifeguard training or equivalent.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR (advanced certification may be required based on camp location).
  • Must be 16 years old or older.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Training and experience in waterfront activities offered at the camp.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in the water.
Physical Aspects Of The Position
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, assist campers in an emergency, and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Requirements
  • Ability to stand on your feet for an extended period.
  • Ability to lift to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
Additional Information

Must hold membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
