Overview

High School Boys Assistant Baseball Coach at Perry Township Schools. Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for individual and team success. Instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.

Essential Job Functions
  • Participates in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season.
  • Recommends equipment guidelines as to type, style, color or technical specifications.
  • Operates within budget appropriations and is accountable for all equipment, collecting the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.
  • Arranges for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment; submits annual inventory and current records.
  • Marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing; monitors equipment rooms and coaches  offices; authorizes entry, issuing or requisition of equipment.
  • Ensures athletes are in authorized areas at appropriate times; examines locker rooms before and after practices and games; maintains cleanliness of facility and equipment.
  • Secures doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Instills respect for equipment and school property; promotes proper care and use.
  • Organizes preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players and guests.
  • Promotes the sport within the school and outside the school through recruitment and media outreach.
  • Responsible for the quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written releases to local media; maintains good public relations with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
  • Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments and results.
Staff Responsibilities
  • Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff.
  • Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  • Trains and informs staff; encourages professional growth through clinic attendance.
  • Delegates duties, supervises implementation and evaluates staff effectiveness at season’s end.
  • Maintains discipline, resolves grievances and promotes morale and cooperation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assists the athletic director with scheduling, transportation and requirements for tournaments and special events.
  • Prepares for scheduled events or practices and adheres to facility times; coordinates with maintenance and school staff.
  • Provides documentation for state and system requirements (physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility).
  • Safeguards for maintenance and protection of equipment and facilities.
  • Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method or procedural changes.
Student Responsibilities
  • Serves as a mentor to promote character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
  • Monitors athletes  grades and conduct; provides guidance during practices and travel.
  • Communicates and enforces training rules and sport-specific regulations; oversees injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
  • Completes paperwork for athletic injuries promptly; directs student managers, assistants and statisticians.
  • Determines discipline procedures and communicates with parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
  • Assists athletes in college or advanced educational planning.
Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of athletic policies and applicable regulations; interprets them for staff.
  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Substantial knowledge of technical aspects of the sport; stays current with new theories and procedures.
  • Ability to be a positive role model through instruction and actions.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Physical work involves standing, lifting up to 35 pounds, and frequent movement; periods of standing and lifting occur often to very frequent depending on activity.
  • Visual ability to read laws, codes, rules and policies; clear communication with others; operate job-related equipment; reach in all directions.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
  • Previous experience is preferred.
