Who We Are

The ASPCA’s Animal Relocation department is tasked with providing effective, lifesaving, animal relocation and transport. Using the theories of supply and demand, relocation saves lives by transporting animals from under-resourced shelters in areas of oversupply where the chance of adoption is slim, to shelters where the chances of adoption are greater.

About this Contingent Opportunity
  • This is a temporary, contingent position and the person hired will be employed through a third-party staffing agency

  • The target hiring range for this temporary role is $25 per hour and may be modified in the future

  • This is a part-time, variable hour opportunity with a flexible schedule and no specified end date to the assignment

  • This position is open to all eligible candidates based within a one-hour driving radius of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas, Texas. A 30-minute or less driving radius is highly preferred

What You’ll Do
  • As part of the department’s Flex Workforce, the Vehicle, Crate, & Inventory Assistant reports to the Director, Performance & Engagement. Day-to-day responsibilities are largely guided by the Senior Manager – Operations

  • This position has no direct reports

  • This role is crucial to the success of our program – properly sanitized crates, fleet readiness, and an organized inventory of readily accessible supplies, contribute to the health of the animals on transport and ensure we can maximize the number of animals relocated

Where and When You’ll Work
  • The assistant will work year-round in a warehouse, storage unit, and outside on a regular basis, including during a variety of weather conditions. Work environments are in Dallas, Texas

  • This role typically includes several hours of scheduled work each week, and then occasional work that arises throughout the week. Work schedule is generally flexible but includes availability during business hours and may require occasional quick responses or early mornings

  • Candidates may periodically travel by ground or air to support movement of vehicles, equipment, supplies, and animals

Responsibilities

Responsibilities are listed in general order of importance. They include but are not limited to:

Vehicle, Crate, and Equipment Management
  • Help the Senior Manager – Operations maintain a custom-built fleet of 23 vehicles by completing checklists and required logs, identifying and performing basic maintenance, reconfiguring crates and equipment, and all other tasks that help keep vehicles on the road and ready for transport

  • Help the Senior Manager – Operations and the Manager – Flights maintain hundreds of Ruff Land kennels and airline flight crates, stored and transported coast-to-coast

  • Help outfit new vehicles, installing basic equipment and loading supplies, transporting vehicles between multiple vendors and helping monitor and document the process

Cleaning
  • Thoroughly sanitize and disinfect vehicles, crates (on average 50-100 per assignment) and other equipment, including the removal of feces, urine, and vomit in accordance with complex, very detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

  • Perform extremely physical, multi-step cleaning process in a variety of weather conditions, including:

    • Unpack, disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble crates as part of the cleaning process

    • Palletize, wrap, load, ship, move, and receive crates and other supplies following the cleaning process

    • Load crates onto vehicles for shipping and delivery processes, including lifting up to 50 pounds repeatedly

Inventory
  • Perform vehicle audits, thoroughly inspecting and documenting equipment, supplies, and condition and performance of vehicles

  • Partner with the Senior Manager – Operations to monitor, accurately document (electronically), and maintain an extensive inventory of supplies, crates and equipment; may require travel to facilities in other states
