Billing Specialist
A nationally recognized Am Law 100 law firm is seeking a billing specialist to join its growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for both early-career billing professionals looking to build a long-term career in legal accounting, as well as experienced billing specialists from Am Law 200 or similarly complex environments who are ready to contribute at a high level.
The billing specialist will support attorneys and clients through accurate, timely, and compliant billing processes. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven professional services environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare, review, and finalize client invoices in accordance with firm and client guidelines
- Collaborate with attorneys and staff to ensure accurate time and expense entries
- Process edits, write-offs, transfers, and billing adjustments
- Ensure compliance with client billing requirements and e-billing systems
- Research and resolve billing inquiries
- Maintain accurate billing records and documentation
Qualifications:
For entry-level/early career candidates:
- 2+ year of billing, accounting, or finance experience (legal industry preferred but not required)
- Strong excel and data entry skills
- High attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Professional communication skills
For senior-level candidates:
- 5+ years of legal billing experience, preferably within an Am Law 200 or comparable firm
- Experience with complex client guidelines and e-billing platforms
- Advanced understanding of billing systems and reporting
- Ability to mentor junior team members and manage high-volume portfolios
