English as a New Language (ENL) Coordinator

SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:
The English as a New Language Coordinator will support the academic vision of the ENL program
through curriculum development, ENL focused professional development, coaching support and
college and career readiness efforts. This position requires a thoughtful educator with adult
leadership experience, a deep passion for academic subject matter, a proven ability to manage
multiple concurrent projects, and a talent for inspiring outstanding achievement. This position
requires a strong, proven track record in improving educational results for students, the highest
standards for student achievement goals, outstanding adult coaching and development skills, and
an ability to translate teacher and school needs into district support systems. The coordinator will
work to implement IPS's Strategic Priorities with collaboration from Unified Student Services,
Post Secondary Readiness, and Teaching and Learning teams.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and
provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
● Build strong collaborative relationships with Teaching and Learning Members, Executive
Director of Schools (EDS), building coaches, building and district administrators, ENL
teachers and assistants
● Ensure instruction aligns with curricula demands, state standards, and diverse student
needs by both creating exemplar ENL secondary units of study and developing ENL
teachers to create and modify curriculum documents
● Develop staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of
professional development on improving outcomes for English learners
● Conduct high-quality one on ones with ENL specialists to improve effectiveness and
student achievement
● Develop ENL Specialists and manage their evaluations utilizing Standards for
Success
● Collaborate with and manage ENL College and Career Readiness Coordinators on
ensuring secondary students are on track for graduation and are prepared for
post-secondary success
● Other duties as assigned
"Day In the Life" Overview
On a regular day, as the ENL Coordinator, you might:
● Meet with ENL coaches to discuss instructional trends observed in schools to aid in the
design of professional development sessions.
● Meet with school leaders about the implementation of ILPs and how to increase classroom
teacher skill levels in implementing accommodations.
● Discuss ways to ensure students have access to grade level content with other Academics
department team members.
● Analyze grading data with College and Career Readiness Coordinators to determine
supports students need to get on track or stay on track for graduation.
● Participate in school walkthroughs to look for evidence and effectiveness of English
learner support.
