NCN schools use a sheltered English immersion program to support students identified as multilingual learners (MLs). Our ML teachers are critical to the model, both in terms of direct student services and teacher support. You can find our ML teachers providing instructional support to small-groups of students both inside and outside of the classroom as well as co-teaching with a content teacher, whichever is deemed most appropriate to support that particular group of students.
They can also be found collaboratively planning alongside content teachers, providing scaffolding recommendations for ML students or providing professional development related to ML best practices. Our work is grounded in data, so our ML teachers also review student data regularly to figure out what's working and what's not yet in order to provide the most effective support possible.
