The Teaching Assistant works closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff to promote student learning, behavior, and growth across the school day.
Requirements:
Instructional Support:
* Assist the classroom teacher with instructional activities, small-group work, and individualized support.
* Reinforce lessons and skills introduced by the teacher using approved instructional materials and strategies.
* Help prepare classroom materials, technology, and resources for daily instruction.
* Support the use of accommodations and modifications for students with diverse learning needs.
Classroom Management & Student Supervision:
* Help maintain a positive, structured, and respectful classroom environment.
* Support the implementation of classroom routines, behavior expectations, and school-wide policies.
* Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
* Redirect inappropriate behavior and reinforce positive behaviors in alignment with the school discipline framework.
* Ensure student safety and monitor behavior to maintain an orderly learning environment.
Student Support & Differentiation:
* Provide one-on-one or small-group assistance to students who need additional academic or behavioral support.
* Offer support to students with IEPs, ILPs, or 504 plans under the guidance of licensed teachers and support staff.
* Track and report student progress, challenges, or concerns to the classroom teacher or appropriate staff.
Communication &
Collaboration:
* Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and administrators to support classroom goals.
* Maintain professionalism when interacting with students, families, and colleagues.
* Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and school events as required.
* Collaborate with grade-level teams and support staff to improve student learning and classroom systems.
Professional Conduct & Growth:
* Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism in all responsibilities.
* Be open to coaching, feedback, and on-the-job training.
* Participate in professional development related to instructional strategies, student behavior, and school policies.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED (required).
* 2 year degree or 2 years of college experience is preferred.
* Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or youth-focused setting is preferred.
* Ability to follow teacher direction, work collaboratively, and support classroom expectations.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
* Must pass all required background checks for school personnel under Indiana state law.
