JOB EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Position Purpose / Description
* The Elementary ENL Teacher partners with school staff to increase understanding about English Learners' culture and background and to ensure implementation of culturally and linguistically responsive learning experiences. ENL Teachers assist with instruction, assessment, curriculum, professional development, and family and community participation.
Qualifications:
* Licensed teacher with English Learner certification including grades K-5.
* Highly organized with the ability to communicate effectively.
* Knowledge and understanding of laws pertaining to English learners.
* Knowledge of second language acquisition and the acculturation process.
* Strong understanding of WIDA standards and assessments.
* Collaborative and willing to work with multiple teachers.
* Bilingual/Multilingual preferred.
Co-Teaching and ENL Instruction
* Establish an ongoing partnership with teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, and co-assessing to build their capacity to effectively instruct English learners.
* Collaboratively support English learners' growth in reading, writing, speaking and listening through individual interactions, small group teaching, and/or in an ENL class with the goal of application and the transfer of learning in the core, general education setting.
* Employ a variety of instructional techniques, including those represented in the SIOP Model, to support language acquisition, mastery of content standards, and implementation of collaborative learning activities between ELs and their native-English speaking peers.
* Through dialogue and reflection with general education teachers, use the WIDA Standards to differentiate instruction per students' English language proficiency levels.
* Support implementation of ILP accommodations.
Professional Development and Coaching
* Participate in data, planning, and PLC meetings.
* Develop core knowledge among all staff in regards to equitable instructional practices and family engagement techniques that celebrate cultures, heritage, and languages.
* Model ENL strategies during staff meetings and other designated professional development opportunities.
* Advocate and support partnerships with multilingual families.
* Use instructional coaching strategies to support best practices for ELs during English language arts and content classes.
* Direct instructional assistants for the purpose of providing an effective ENL program that addresses the needs of individual students.
Family Outreach and Compliance
* Communicate with multilingual liaisons, the school social worker, and families to improve family and community partnerships.
* Administer WIDA testing.
* Write, maintain and revise ILPs in collaboration with general education teachers.
* Interpret and analyze student data to build ILPs and support classroom instruction.
* Analyze and interpret data while participating in student support team meetings.
