HS STEM Teacher

Heritage Christian School

Position Objective:
Provides strategic leadership, instructional design, and operational oversight for a computer science, engineering, and a comprehensive robotics program. This role develops the computer science and engineering curriculum that aligns with state standards and a biblical worldview. Leads the Head Coaches of the high school and intermediate-middle school VEX Robotics program. The position emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning, student mentorship, and real-world engineering applications.

Qualifying Characteristics:
The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle. The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. In addition, the ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships, representing Christ and HCS professionally and positively with the HCS community-at-large, including faculty and staff, Board members, parents, volunteers and others is crucial to the success of this role.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field of study;
Technical expertise in one or more areas:
Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics programming; experience with CTE program implementation or curriculum development;
Familiarity with Indiana DOE CTE pathways, dual credit, or certification programs; an Indiana teaching license or willingness to participate in a transition to teaching program

Major Responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership & Strategy
    • Serve as Head Coach for grades 5-12 robotics team, providing strategic oversight and leadership.
    • Establish program-wide goals, expectations, and performance standards
    • Ensure vertical alignment between middle school and high school robotics experiences
    • Build partnerships with industry professionals, mentors, and community organizations
    • Ensure all aspects of the robotics and engineering program reflect and advance the school's mission, including spiritual development, academic excellence, and student formation
  • Program Development
    • Develop and deliver standards-aligned curriculum that integrates projects, real-world problem-solving, and application.
    • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual program budget.
    • Assist in planning, procurement, and maintenance of program supplies and equipment.
    • Identify, pursue, and administer grant opportunities to support program growth and sustainability.
    • Oversee robotics labs, equipment, materials, and fabrication spaces.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper lab procedures.
    • Develop and manage the annual robotics program calendar.
    • Lead competition strategy, preparation, and execution for VEX teams.
    • Plan, organize, and lead summer robotics and engineering camps (minimum two weeks), including curriculum design, staffing, logistics, and promotion.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches, mentors, and volunteers to ensure alignment with the school's mission, culture, and policies.
    • Incorporate instructional technologies, simulation platforms, and robotics systems.
    • Maintain program documentation, assessments, and compliance records.
  • Student Development & Engagement
    • Mentor students in engineering design, coding, fabrication, and systems thinking.
    • Foster skills in collaboration, critical thinking, and iterative problem-solving.
    • Guide students in career exploration within computer science, engineering, and robotics.
    • Support student recruitment, retention, and program visibility
    • Intentionally integrate Christian discipleship into student interactions, emphasizing character formation, servant leadership, and a Christ-centered approach to competition and teamwork
    • Model and cultivate a culture that reflects the school's mission through mentorship, relationships, and daily program practices
