Job Description

Area 31 Career Center seeks a highly motivated and collaborative Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator to develop, coordinate, and expand career-connected learning opportunities for students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The WBL Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between Area 31 students, instructors, employers, workforce partners, and sending schools to facilitate meaningful workplace experiences that prepare students for postsecondary success and high-demand careers.

The successful candidate will build and sustain employer partnerships, coordinate student placements, ensure compliance with state and local requirements, and support students in developing the professional and technical skills necessary for success in today’s workforce.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Employer Partnerships and Workforce Engagement
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain partnerships with business, industry, government, and community organizations.
  • Expand opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, clinical experiences, job shadowing, and other work-based learning experiences.
  • Conduct employer site visits to evaluate placement opportunities and maintain strong relationships with partners.
  • Collaborate with workforce development agencies, chambers of commerce, industry associations, and postsecondary institutions.
Student Support and Placement
  • Coordinate student placement in work-based learning experiences aligned with career pathways and program objectives.
  • Assist students with career readiness preparation, including resumes, interviewing, workplace communication, and professionalism.
  • Monitor student progress through regular communication, site visits, and employer feedback.
  • Support students in meeting workplace expectations and resolving concerns that arise during placements.
Program Coordination and Compliance
  • Maintain all required documentation, training agreements, evaluations, and student records.
  • Ensure compliance with Indiana Department of Education Work-Based Learning requirements and local policies.
  • Track student participation, hours, competencies, certifications, and program outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze data to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare reports and documentation required for grants, accountability measures, and state reporting.
Collaboration and Outreach
  • Work closely with Area 31 instructors, counselors, administrators, and sending school personnel to identify student opportunities.
  • Promote work-based learning opportunities through presentations, events, social media, and community outreach.
  • Coordinate employer engagement activities, advisory committee participation, and career exploration events.
  • Facilitate communication among students, parents, employers, and school personnel.
Career Readiness Programming
  • Coordinate career fairs, signing days, employer panels, mock interviews, and workplace readiness activities.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen employability skills and career awareness.
  • Assist students in connecting classroom learning to career goals and postsecondary opportunities.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, workforce development, human resources, counseling, communications, or a Workplace Specialist License or a related field.
  • Experience working with employers, workforce development programs, education, career services, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for employer and student site visits.
Preferred
  • Experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE).
  • Knowledge of Indiana Work-Based Learning requirements and career readiness initiatives.
  • Experience coordinating internships, apprenticeships, cooperative education, or workforce development programs.
  • Familiarity with labor market trends and employer engagement strategies.
