Behavioral Support Specialist
Position
Purpose:
To collaborate with school professionals, families and students to promote and maintain a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for all students and support identified one-on-one, in the classroom, for behavior and academic reason.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with teachers and administration in carrying out the philosophy of discipline within the school.
- Teaching social skills lessons.
- Member of school discipline team.
- Help promote school wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) initiative.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, families, and students.
- The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with school professionals, students and families.
Equipment Use:
Standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, calculator, and telephone.
Travel Requirements:
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Pay Rates: $35.18 per hour.
Work Schedule:
8 hours per day. 183 days per year.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.
- Knowledge of positive behavior strategies and reinforcement.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations.
- Ability to quickly gather information and identify problems and goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of media.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
- Ability to be organized and maintain records, manage time and resources effectively and efficiently.

- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training preferred. If not trained, must be willing to be trained.
- Education BA degree preferred.

- Priority will be given to those with:
Previous experience with elementary age children in a school/formal setting. - PBIS implementation.
