We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Special Education Teacher to join the KIPP Indy team. The ideal candidate will be committed to ensuring all students, including those with diverse learning needs, have access to high-quality, individualized instruction and support. KIPP Indy Special Education Teachers are responsible for providing specialized instruction, managing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and collaborating with general education teachers to ensure the success of students with disabilities.
Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized education programs (IEPs) that meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities in compliance with state and federal regulations. Teachers will design and deliver differentiated instruction based on students' unique learning needs in both pull-out and inclusion settings. They will regularly assess and track student progress toward IEP goals, adjusting instruction as needed to promote academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
Teachers will collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to create inclusive learning environments that support all learners. They will also have a strong understanding of behavior management strategies and interventions, use data-driven decision-making to provide targeted interventions and specialized support, and provide students with appropriate accommodations and modifications in the classroom and during assessments. Teachers will build strong relationships with students and their families, providing ongoing communication and support to foster student success.
They will participate in case conferences and IEP meetings, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate. Teachers will work with school leadership and the special education team to comply with all federal and state regulations and deadlines related to special education services. They will stay current on best practices in special education instruction, behavior management, and accommodations. Teachers will take ownership of their professional development by seeking out learning opportunities and reflecting on their teaching practices.
Competencies include sensitivity to the diverse cultural backgrounds of students and the ability to create an inclusive classroom environment. Teachers will recognize and manage personal biases to ensure fair treatment of all students. They will believe deeply that all students can learn and deserve a high-quality education and that all students, including those with disabilities, can learn and achieve high academic standards.
Qualifications- Valid Indiana teaching license with Special Education certification or eligibility (required).
- Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field/transition program (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of state and federal special education regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (required).
- Experience in writing and managing IEPs (preferred).
- Proven track record of helping students with disabilities succeed academically, behaviorally, and socially (preferred).
- Commitment to the KIPP Indy mission and the Indianapolis community (required).
- Pass a criminal background check, as required by law (required).
Licensed teacher starting at $50,000. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a highly competitive benefits package. Opportunities for performance-based bonuses are also available.
