Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Civil Engineering / Site Team Leader to join our growing team in Indianapolis.
This leadership role is ideal for a motivated civil/site engineering professional with strong technical expertise, team management experience, and a passion for delivering high-quality projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a multidisciplinary team, overseeing project delivery, mentoring staff, and ensuring client satisfaction while driving business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Workflow and Staff Management
Oversee daily operations and team workflow across multiple projects
Facilitate staff sharing and resource optimization between teams
Provide monthly revenue and staffing projections with a 3-month forecast
Monitor and manage team performance metrics, including revenue, profitability, billing, and utilization
Identify hiring needs; participate in candidate screening and interviews
Ensure proper onboarding and ongoing staff training
Encourage professional growth and internal career mobility
Address personnel matters in coordination with Group Leader and HR
Support the employee performance review process
Maintain and update the group's proposal tracking spreadsheet monthly
Review and approve team timesheets and expense reports
Foster a positive team environment and promote high morale
Participate in leadership meetings and company initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned
Staff Development
Conduct regular staff assessments and set developmental goals
Mentor and develop Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and Project Managers
Guide Design Engineers toward advancement into Project Manager or Senior roles
Train Project Managers in fee preparation, proposal writing, billing, and project financials
Coach Project Managers in full project lifecycle management and client engagement
Set development timelines for Project Managers and monitor progress
Provide performance feedback and recognition
Facilitate open communication and employee motivation
Technical Leadership
Provide technical oversight and direction for all civil/site design projects
Ensure interdisciplinary coordination on multi-discipline projects
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges
Identify and address project roadblocks to maintain momentum
Project Management
Lead proposals, interviews, fee justifications, and contract development
Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery across the team
Track and report financial status of projects and Project Manager performance
Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, and quality expectations
Drive project velocity while maintaining profitability
Manage and collect Accounts Receivable (AR) for team and assigned clients
Quality Assurance
Support development and implementation of quality control processes
Promote consistent quality practices across all projects
Ensure appropriate reviews are conducted at all project stages
Utilize internal technical resources for quality support
Client Management, Marketing & Sales
Build and maintain strong client relationships
Conduct client touchpoints to assess satisfaction and explore new needs
Participate in contract preparation and negotiation
Partner with business development staff to secure new clients
Attend sales meetings and assist in closing new opportunities
Seek out additional work with existing and potential clients
Contribute to strategic marketing and sales planning
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
8+ years of civil/site engineering experience, including team and project leadership
Demonstrated experience managing a team of at least 5 professionals (engineers and PMs)
Proven success leading both the technical and managerial aspects of civil/site projects
Strong client relationship and communication skills
Familiarity with project financials, billing, and performance tracking
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and mentoring skills
Ability to obtain an Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) license within 3-6 months of hire
