Piping Designer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Piping Designer to join a consulting engineering team focused on industrial facilities. In this role, you design and draft piping systems for utilities, chemicals, steam, condensate, cooling water, compressed air, and process gas lines serving industries such as automotive, chemical, and food and beverage. You apply 3D modeling tools, industry codes, and sound layout principles to deliver accurate, constructible designs while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Responsibilities
+ Develop detailed piping layouts, plans, and isometric drawings using CAD software and 3D modeling tools.
+ Interpret project specifications, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) in collaboration with engineers.
+ Ensure all piping designs comply with applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.
+ Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to identify and resolve design conflicts and clashes.
+ Perform field visits to gather dimensional data, verify existing conditions, and incorporate as-built information into designs.
+ Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, and material take-offs to support construction and procurement activities.
+ Support the full project life cycle from conceptual design through detailed design, construction support, and project closeout.
+ Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and workflows within the piping design function.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 4+ years of industrial piping design experience.
+ Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D or 3D for piping design and drafting.
+ Hands-on experience with piping design for utilities, chemical lines, steam, condensate, cooling water, compressed air, and process gas systems.
+
Experience with industrial piping design in sectors such as automotive, chemical, food and beverage, or similar industrial facilities.
+ Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, and API piping codes and their application to industrial piping systems.
+ Ability to develop piping layouts, isometric drawings, and other construction-ready documents using CAD and plant design tools.
+ Capability to read and interpret PFDs and P&IDs and translate them into accurate piping designs.
+ Strong understanding of piping materials, components, and layout principles for industrial plants.
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other disciplines to resolve design issues and coordinate project deliverables.
+ Willingness and ability to perform field visits to collect data and verify existing conditions.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Technical degree in engineering technology, drafting, design, or a related field.
+
Experience with process gas lines such as hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
+ Experience using plant design software such as Plant 3D or similar 3D modeling tools.
+ Background in industrial piping projects that span the full life cycle, from concept through construction.
+ Interest in working within a highly specialized engineering and design environment that supports long-term professional growth.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
+ Strong communication skills to work directly with an experienced engineering team and project stakeholders.
+ Motivation to learn new software packages and adapt to a variety of project types and client needs.
Work Environment
This is an in-office role in a small, collaborative engineering office with a traditional layout of cubicles and private offices. The team maintains a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere while focusing on high-quality engineering and design work.
