Bridge Project Design Engineer III
Location:
Indianapolis, IN
Key responsibilities:
- Perform structural analysis and design of bridges and transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO and state DOT standards
- Prepare engineering calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
- Assist in the development of rehabilitation and maintenance recommendations for existing structures
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, geotechnical, and construction engineering staff
- Review contractor submittals and provide construction support services as needed
- Ensure quality control and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and agency guidelines
- Develop and implement innovative bridge design solutions to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Participate in the preparation of proposals and presentations for potential projects
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on bridge engineering projects
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in bridge engineering and design
- Collaborate with environmental specialists to ensure bridge designs meet sustainability and ecological requirements
- Perform load rating analyses for new and existing bridges to determine their structural capacity
- Assist in the development of bridge management systems and maintenance strategies
Qualifications:
- BA/BS plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- PE license in Indiana or ability to obtain a PE within 1 year.
- Preferred:
Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MSc or MEng) - Experience with structural analysis software (e.g., MIDAS, Leap Bridge Concrete)
- Proficiency in CAD/BIM tools such as Open Roads/Open Bridge Designer or Micro Station
- Strong understanding of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with DOT design procedures and standards
