The Maintenance Tech is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing complex mechanical and electrical issues within conveyor systems. Key responsibilities include ensuring that the system meets all the client's specifications and standards along with all applicable local, state, and national codes. The Maintenance Tech evaluates current material handling processes and considers innovation in technology, material, methods, and controls software as an integral component of the system design.

They influence the conceptual configuration of major equipment and controls elements of the project based on the layout of the space identified by the client for the system through critical analysis, making sure the system meets the form, fit, and function of the contract/specification requirements. They develop general arrangement drawing(s) of the system and prepare the preliminary manifest as input to the cost estimate process.

Additionally, they assist the estimator to establish costs and timelines for the project in the proposal phase and provide support to the engineering team during subsequent phases of the project as required to ensure the integrity of the system is maintained.

The Maintenance Tech anticipates installation, testing, and debugging phases of critical projects as required and provides concrete, well-thought-out plans that can be moved into engineering once the order is won without issue. They collaborate with clients, engineers, and other staff to understand the specified material and the conveyance, transport, or other handling needs. They evaluate current technology used in the material handling process, considering innovations in material and methods to provide the best solution to DCI's clients.

The Maintenance Tech recommends improvements to ensure the most innovative, efficient, and cost-effective material handling solutions within the schedule constraints of the project. They define testing and acceptance steps and ensure the system agrees with customer requirements and applicable regulatory rules. They draft sketches, examples, and written analysis of proposed designs or improvements to handling system, packaging, and other related elements.

If required, they support the installation, testing, and debugging phases of projects. They draft or assist with drafting relevant technical documentation, specifications, and lists. They actively manage the risk of the project regarding the overall design and implementation both identifying and mitigating.

Preferred qualifications include 3+ years in the conveyor/material handling industry, strong diverse knowledge and expertise of material handling equipment from both a mechanical aspect as well as controls and software, exposure to structural design and electrical system design is a plus, a general level of understanding of common building support systems (i.e., egress and safety systems), knowledge of the applicable codes, standards, and specifications used in material handling systems as recognized by the industry, and understanding testing and acceptance methods and rationale, and able to influence both and implement within the system design.

Skills/abilities include the ability to conceptualize creative system designs and implementation strategies that will give DCI a distinct advantage over our competitors in the market regarding both cost and technology.
