Civil Cad Technician
The Civil Cad Technician will work closely with civil project engineers and project managers to produce high-quality construction drawings for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on production drafting role focused on creating detailed plan sets and design documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, supporting a dedicated design and drafting team that places a strong emphasis on CAD design and modeling.
Responsibilities- Produce accurate 2D and 3D civil construction drawings for municipal water, wastewater, and related infrastructure projects.
- Draft detailed plan sheets, profiles, and construction details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Prepare clear report figures, design exhibits, and presentation graphics to support engineering deliverables.
- Assist with quantity take-offs and support cost estimation efforts by providing precise drafting and measurements.
- Support senior engineers with design activities, including layout development, revisions, and coordination of drawing sets.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers to ensure drawings align with project requirements, standards, and schedules.
- Perform occasional fieldwork or site verification to collect measurements and confirm existing conditions for design accuracy.
- Incorporate drainage, grading, land development, site development, roadway, and water/wastewater design elements into construction plans.
- Maintain organized drawing files and documentation in accordance with company standards and project procedures.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative drafting environment by sharing knowledge, supporting team members, and participating in continuous improvement efforts.
- Work closely with an assigned mentor to develop technical skills, expand industry knowledge, and grow professionally within the design team.
- At least 3 years of experience using Civil 3D in a professional setting.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD for civil drafting and design.
- Demonstrated experience preparing, drafting, and designing civil construction plans.
- Hands-on experience with civil design and civil drawing production.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D for creating and managing civil design models.
- Familiarity with drainage design and representation in construction drawings.
- Experience with grading design and preparation of grading plans.
- Background in land development and site development drafting.
- Exposure to water and wastewater projects, including water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Experience supporting roadway design through plan and profile drafting.
- Ability to produce clear, accurate, and detailed plan sets under the guidance of engineers.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality drafting work.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and other CAD professionals.
Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience with water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Experience working with municipal clients or on public-sector design projects.
- Associate's Degree in Drafting & Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Interest in developing niche expertise in water and wastewater infrastructure design.
- Willingness to participate in training and development programs to expand CAD and modeling skills.
- Motivation to work within a stand-alone design and drafting team where CAD professionals lead and manage design workflows.
- Openness to mentoring relationships and frequent performance feedback to support professional growth.
This role is primarily office-based with a focus on production drafting, complemented by occasional field tasks for site visits and measurements. The standard work schedule options include Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., or a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an average work week of approximately 44–45 hours.
You will be part of a dedicated design department that includes around 20 CAD professionals and a specialized Revit team, working within a structure where CAD and Revit designers lead and manage the design process. The environment emphasizes CAD design and modeling, offers structured mentorship, and provides regular performance evaluations along with opportunities for professional development in a growing, infrastructure-focused industry.
The position involves working in the office the vast majority of the time, with occasional travel to project sites for verification and measurements. Dress expectations align with a professional office setting and appropriate attire for periodic field visits.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.50 - $45.00/hr.
