Controller

This position is an essential part of our finance team whose main responsibility is to prepare bi-weekly payroll, ensure proper recording of operating activity transactions and provide audit/tax prep work and general financial resources for the organization. This position supports the CFO in producing financial reporting to the organization's stakeholders and special projects. Responsibilities also include overseeing the work of the Staff Accountant and requires a mentoring mindset.

The Controller also works collaboratively with our Development department to ensure donations and DAF contributions and grant distributions and properly recorded.

Additionally, the controller works with the department directors in developing annual operating budgets.

Proper recording of operational transactions, reconciliation of A/R balances, generation of aging reports, preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliation of contributions between CRM system and accounting system, bank reconciliation, interagency billing, administration of fringe benefits, bi-weekly payroll entry, preparation of audit work papers, preparation of schedules for 990, review and approval of A/P and grant vouchers, review of credit card reconciliations, supervision and mentoring of Staff Accountant.

Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is a must. Not for Profit/Fund accounting experience with exposure to fund accounting software is a plus.

Previous

Work Experience:

A minimum of 7-10 years of related work experience, including financial statement preparation and month-end close. Not for Profit/Fund accounting experience with exposure to fund accounting software is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

Attention to processes and detail is essential. Ability to handle multiple tasks with proven organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently. Must be a self-starter, motivated to identify and seek answers to questions and issues that arise on his/her own. Ability to work in a team environment and interact professionally with colleagues. Computer literacy with strong competency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (esp.

Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and CRM software, such as Blackbaud;
Foundant software experience. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information. Position will be in-office.

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office setting and is usually fast paced with constant stimulation and mobility. This job requires interaction with staff, leadership, donors, volunteers, and program participants. Meetings and programs may be conducted outside of the office, as well as outside of standard business hours. Expectations are that staff present a professional appearance and behave in a professional manner at all times, particularly when interacting with program participants and donors.

Physical demands are primarily limited to operating general office equipment and tasks associated with event and program planning.
