Role Overview :
The Field Auditor is a high‑impact financial compliance role responsible for protecting the agency's multi‑million‑dollar grant portfolio. Operating with significant independence, this position conducts in‑depth fiscal and administrative audits across Indiana's workforce development network-testing internal controls, examining payroll and procurement records, and validating regulatory compliance under 2 CFR 200. Field Auditors translate complex financial findings into clear, defensible reports and advise leadership on risks, corrective actions, and fiscal integrity.
This role is ideal for someone who excels in financial auditing, regulatory analysis, and investigative problem‑solving while representing the agency professionally in the field.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Perform audits to determine if business is operating within the scope of applicable State law.
* Perform audits as assigned by reviewing various records as they pertain to the assigned functions.
* Prepare current ratio and balance sheet reports on licensed firms as assigned by completing an audit of the firm's business records and confirming balances.
* Submit written and oral reports of audit findings to the agency.
* Assist and service various entities in the license application process as assigned.
* Provide the Director and the agency with recommendations of business status and solvency.
* Compile information for potential criminal prosecution.
* Testify as necessary at legal proceedings as a field auditor.
* Represent the agency in business relations within the state.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
* Knowledge and skill typically acquired through a bachelor's degree, related academic training and relevant work experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree where appropriate.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to comprehend and interpret applicable state and federal regulations.
* Specialized knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, business management, and economics.
* Ability to use computers and familiarity with basic data entry, word processing and spreadsheet software.
* Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects.
* Ability to work independently and with others as needed.
* Maintain all applicable safety policies and procedures.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
* Ability to travel extensively within the state with some nights away from home to conduct audits.
