DCS-Social Security Specialist

Position: IN-DCS-Social Security Specialist
Works as professional staff within the Department of Child Services Central Eligibility Unit performing multiple Social Security Unit tasks

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

It may require interaction with Family Case Managers, supervisors, and Local Office Directors to request and clarify information when making determinations.

• Submit SSI applications
• - Submit CDR applications
• - Submit Recon applications
• - Data entry on social security forms
• - Complete social security accounting reports
• - Scan social security mail
• - Customer service calls to SSA and DDB to relay basic placement information
• - Email template SSI referral requests to FCMs, and forward received referrals to supervisor
• - Manage SSI referral follow ups, sending emails for unreceived requests
• - Mail school and medical records requests for hearings
• - Manage follow-ups for hearings records requests
• - Submit SSN email requests to SSA
• - Post-refund case research for additional benefit checks received in error
• - Respond in writing to SSA address and check notices
• - Monthly check audits to look for SSA payment coding errors
• - Mail outgoing social security correspondence
• - Social security over payment notice review for accuracy
