Supervisor, Logistics

The Supervisor, Logistics is responsible for leading logistics and inventory control operations within a GMP-regulated environment while ensuring safety, quality, compliance, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency. This role provides frontline leadership to logistics personnel and partners cross-functionally with Quality, Supply Chain, Client Services, and Operations to support production schedules and customer requirements.

Day in the Life:

  • Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in all areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate and drive Thermo Fisher values – Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement (The Four I's).
  • Supervise, motivate, direct, develop, and evaluate Logistics and Inventory Control personnel.
  • Maintain strong floor presence by actively engaging with logistics and materials management personnel.
  • Serve as liaison between management and frontline staff to ensure timely communication and issue resolution.
  • Engage in Daily Management, Gemba walks, tier meetings, 5S, and Practical Process Improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate inventory storage while maintaining a clean, organized, and secure warehouse environment.
  • Run inventory reports to monitor expired, inactive, slow-moving, and capacity-related inventory risks.
  • Ensure cycle counts are completed and discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
  • Manage warehouse consumables and replenishment strategies including JIT, Kanban, and reorder point planning.
  • Manage staging activities to ensure on-time delivery to production schedules.
  • Develop capacity models and escalation processes to support operational planning.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies, deviations, and complaints while implementing corrective actions.
  • Write deviations, perform investigations, support CAPAs, and manage change controls as applicable.
  • Revise and develop SOPs to support process improvements and compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure personnel are properly trained and procedures are consistently followed.
  • Provide department KPI and performance metric reporting.
  • Maintain on-call support for logistics and inventory-related operational issues as needed.
  • Partner cross-functionally with QA, Client Services, Supply Chain, and Operations.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Keys to Success:

  • Associate degree and/or equivalent GMP experience with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of logistics, inventory control, or materials management experience in a GMP environment.
  • Experience working within Quality Management Systems including deviations, CAPAs, change controls, and investigations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and workforce prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and independent decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • High attention to detail and inventory accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally across QA, Supply Chain, Client Services, and Operations.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated, warehouse, and GMP environments as applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean experience.
  • Prior pharmaceutical or clinical logistics experience.
  • Technical writing skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to walk frequently (50%-79%).
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, and reach above shoulder level occasionally.
  • Must be able to use repetitive hand movements including grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including filtering face masks, PAPR, N-95 masks, and safety glasses may be required.
  • Must be able to work in hot/cold, damp, and warehouse environments and around moving equipment.
