Assembly Technician – 1st Shift
Join a growing local manufacturing shop as an Assembly Technician on 1st shift, where you will assemble custom mechanical and electrical products using blueprints, hand and power tools, and fabrication equipment in a clean, small job shop environment.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to assemble mechanical and electrical components accurately.
- Use hand tools and power tools to build and assemble products according to specifications.
- Utilize a computer to track and update production orders throughout the build process.
- Measure and mark steel using a tape measure to prepare materials for machine operations.
- Read and follow production documents to ensure correct assembly steps and quality standards.
- Assist the fabrication department by operating drill presses and saws as needed.
- Perform basic fabrication tasks such as grinding to prepare or finish parts.
- Occasionally run wire and perform electrical wiring tasks for the electrical portion of the final product.
- Ensure the work area remains clean, organized, and safe at all times.
- Collaborate with team members to complete custom assembly projects efficiently and on schedule.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and production documents.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in mechanical and electrical assembly.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly of components and systems.
- Ability to perform basic electrical assembly and electrical wiring tasks.
- Skilled in using a tape measure to measure and mark steel and other materials accurately.
- Familiarity with fabrication processes, including operating drill presses and saws.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Basic computer skills to track and update production orders.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in fabrication or job shop manufacturing.
- Experience with custom assembly work rather than only high-volume production.
- Comfort working from detailed schematics and technical drawings.
- Ability to perform grinding and other finishing operations on fabricated parts.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small team environment.

WorkEnvironment
This role is based in a small, clean job shop local to Indianapolis, operating on 1st shift. You will work in a hands-on manufacturing setting using hand tools, power tools, drill presses, saws, and other fabrication equipment, along with computers for tracking production orders. The facility emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, providing a comfortable and professional environment for mechanical and electrical assembly work.
Attire is typical for a fabrication and assembly shop, suitable for working with tools, machinery, and steel materials.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
