Position Summary

The Manual Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools to repair, rebuild, modify, and fabricate precision components. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all safety policies and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other manual machining equipment.
  • Repair, rebuild, modify, and manufacture precision components to specification.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Design and fabricate fixtures, tooling, and machining procedures as needed.
  • Perform quality inspections to verify dimensions and workmanship.
  • Troubleshoot machining and mechanical issues while identifying process improvements.
  • Perform general machine maintenance and keep equipment in good operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate with team members to share technical knowledge and support production goals.
  • Assist with training and mentoring less experienced machinists.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational training, technical school, or apprenticeship preferred.
  • 3–5 years of manual machining experience.
  • Strong knowledge of manual machining practices and equipment.
  • Experience working with a variety of metals and materials.
  • Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of shop mathematics.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience with equipment repair or remanufacturing is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and production tracking systems.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk throughout an 8+ hour shift.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Heavier materials may require lifting equipment or team assistance.
  • Perform precision work requiring manual dexterity and close attention to detail.
  • Safely operate manual machining equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, and related shop equipment (training provided when applicable).
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, oils, coolants, metal shavings, and seasonal temperature changes.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
