As a Machine Operator

You will perform complete setup and operations of various manual machines—including saws, broaches, polishers, balancers, trim lathes, and shaft straighteners—to produce precision components that keep the world’s water moving. You'll be part of a diverse, supportive and inclusive culture that celebrates our differences and puts people first by fostering growth, well‑being, and a sense of belonging.

What you will be doing

As a key part of the Manufacturing Operations team, you’ll create impact by ensuring every component meets exacting quality standards while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence on the production floor.

Your main responsibilities include
  • Set up and operate manual machines (saws, broaches, balancers, grinders, trim lathes, shaft straighteners) to perform all operations within machine capability, including metal removal, balancing, and grinding wheel dressing.
  • Perform secondary operations such as deburring, drilling, tapping, honing, reaming, polishing, countersinking, and bushing installation to meet print specifications.
  • Inspect parts for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications using precision measuring instruments and gages.
  • Maintain manual and electronic records including data entry in SAP, and retrieve production information as needed.
  • Handle material using forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment; receive, store, and retrieve materials to support production flow.
  • Provide training and instruction to fellow operators, promote teamwork, and support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
What makes you a great fit

Above all, you are a detail-oriented machining professional with strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read engineering drawings, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork. You would also have:

  • High school diploma or GED with vocational training in precision measuring instruments, blueprint reading, or equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
  • Hands‑on experience operating manual machines and equipment such as saws, grinders, balancers, and drill presses.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, and apply shop math (decimals, fractions, multiplication, division) to fabrication calculations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs, and work in a non‑climate‑controlled factory environment with flexibility for shift changes and overtime.
It is a plus if you also
  • Experience with balancing operations or precision machining.
  • Forklift license and experience with crane lift rigging and other lifting equipment.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing concepts, SAP, and Microsoft Office applications.
