A Medicare Sales Agent specializes in helping seniors and individuals with disabilities navigate the complexities of Medicare. Because Medicare rules, plans, and enrollment periods are heavily regulated by the federal government (CMS), this role balances consultative sales with strict compliance and education.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:- Conduct Needs
-Based Assessment:
Meet with Medicare-eligible individuals to analyze their current healthcare needs, financial situation, preferred doctors, and prescription medications. - Present and Enroll Clients in Plans:
Educate clients on their options and enroll them into appropriate plans, including Medicare Advantage (Part
C), Prescription Drug Plans (Part
D) and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies - Sales/Growth:
Build a pipeline of client referrals based on exceptional service, community outreach, educational seminars, special events, and working with one of our 68 Referral Partners. SBA's is a referral-based organization. - Annual Election Period (AEP) Management:
Manage a high volume of client reviews and enrollments during the peak season from October 15 to December 7 every year.
- CMS Guidelines:
Adhere strictly to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) marketing guidelines (e.g. recording calls, Scope of appointment rules, required disclaimers) - Licensing & Certification:
Must hold and maintain an active State Health Insurance License. Additionally, agents must pass annual AHIP (America's Health Insurance Plans) certification and individual insurance carrier certification to legally sell plans each year.
- Associate or bachelor's degree helpful.
- 2+ years' experience in Medicare Sales required.
- Compassion and Patience:
The ability to explain complex government health insurance terms to seniors in a clear, patient, and empathetic manner. - Strong Presentation
Skills:
Comfortable speaking with individuals one-on-one or presenting to small groups. - Detail-Oriented:
Mistakes on enrollment applications can disrupt a clients' healthcare coverage or medication access, making accuracy vital. - Experience with CRM's and online enrollment tools as well as paper applications:
We enroll clients using a variety of methods. Whatever works best for the client. - Exceptional time management and problem-solving skills.
