Gas Piping Technician

The Gas Piping Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of natural gas and propane piping systems in residential, commercial, and/or industrial environments. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, gas codes, and quality standards due to the hazardous nature of gas systems.

Responsibilities:

Install, modify, and repair gas piping systems (natural gas and propane)
Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and gas piping diagrams
Perform gas pressure testing and leak detection in accordance with code requirements
Install piping materials such as black iron, CSST, and other approved materials
Size gas piping systems based on load requirements and code standards
Diagnose and troubleshoot gas flow, pressure, and appliance performance issues
Ensure all work complies with applicable codes (e.g., NFPA 54 / National Fuel Gas Code)
Document pressure tests, inspections, and service reports accurately
Coordinate with other trades (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) to avoid conflicts
Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in safe and clean condition
Follow all OSHA safety regulations and company safety procedures

Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in gas piping, plumbing, or mechanical installation (preferred)
Knowledge of natural gas and propane systems
Ability to read construction drawings and piping schematics
Understanding of gas codes and pressure testing procedures
Experience with gas leak detection tools and testing equipment
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Strong commitment to safety and compliance
