Facilities Maintenance Engineer
This role seeks a skilled Facilities Maintenance Engineer to support the day-to-day maintenance and operation of a growing commercial property portfolio in the Indianapolis area. The position is ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong mechanical aptitude who takes pride in keeping buildings safe, functional, and well-maintained.
Responsibilities- Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building components.
- Respond promptly and professionally to work orders and troubleshoot facility-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain tenant satisfaction.
- Conduct regular inspections of properties to identify repair needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate and assist with outside contractors and vendors when specialized services are required, ensuring work is completed to quality and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, documentation, and logs for all work performed and equipment serviced.
- Support minor renovation, move, and setup projects as needed across the commercial property portfolio.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies and urgent repair needs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and company procedures at all times.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
- Interpret and work from schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Perform general maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and lighting maintenance.
- Assist with boiler and industrial equipment maintenance and perform electrical troubleshooting as needed.
- 2+ years of commercial facilities maintenance experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in plumbing maintenance and repair within commercial facilities.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, including troubleshooting and basic repair.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve building system issues.
- Experience with electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting in a commercial environment.
- Ability to perform general building maintenance, including lighting, carpentry, drywall repair, and painting.
- Skilled in using hand tools and maintenance repair tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints for building systems and equipment.
- Experience with boiler and industrial equipment maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for a wide range of facility and mechanical issues.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage work orders, and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with tenants, vendors, and team members.
Skills & Qualifications
- EPA Universal or HVAC certification is preferred.
- Experience supporting multiple buildings or a property portfolio is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and scheduled service routines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Comfort working in an on-call rotation and responding to after-hours emergencies.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to coordinate work with outside contractors and vendors.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
