Maintenance Technician (Electrician)
This role supports the Electrical Supervisor by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and electrical alterations across Building Authority properties. You will work on a wide range of electrical and building systems, ensuring they operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable codes. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a dynamic facilities environment.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance and repair on building electrical systems, including lighting systems, emergency generators, motors and motor control systems, pumps, card readers, automatic door systems, commercial laundry equipment, air conditioning systems and control circuits, various electrical kitchen equipment systems, intercom systems, public address systems, high voltage switch gear, and fire and smoke alarm systems.
- Execute electrical alterations for buildings maintained by downtown operations, ensuring work meets safety and quality standards.
- Install communication cabling, ensuring proper routing, termination, and labeling in accordance with standards and codes.
- Install switches, receptacles, conduit, and pull wires to complete new or modified electrical circuits.
- Connect completed electrical circuits to power sources safely and in compliance with applicable codes and procedures.
- Interpret and apply the National Electrical Code (NEC) to all assigned work, ensuring installations and repairs meet regulatory requirements.
- Install various camera systems, including running cable, mounting equipment, and making electrical and data connections.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams to plan and execute electrical installations and repairs accurately.
- Assist the Electrical Supervisor in laying out electrical alterations, including planning material needs, routing, and sequencing of work.
- Install various fire alarm equipment, ensuring proper integration with existing systems and adherence to safety standards.
- Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and safety regulations while performing maintenance and repair activities.
- Assist other maintenance shops with general maintenance and repair tasks as needed, supporting a team-based facilities operation.
- Use appropriate test equipment and tools, such as meters and circuit tracers, to troubleshoot electrical issues and verify system performance.
- Document work performed, including maintenance activities, repairs, and alterations, in accordance with facility and departmental requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Electrical Supervisor to support safe and efficient operation of building systems.
- Minimum of 3 years of previous experience and working knowledge in the preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems in a facilities or building maintenance environment.
- Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repair tasks.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose and resolve issues in lighting systems, motor controls, and other building electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, and building codes relevant to electrical installations and maintenance.
- Proficiency using multimeters and other electrical test instruments for measuring voltage, current, resistance, and insulation integrity.
- Working knowledge of building codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC) as they apply to installation, maintenance, and repair work.
- Hands-on experience with maintenance repair activities, including the use of power tools and hand tools in a facilities setting.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on a wide range of building systems, including lighting, HVAC control circuits, and specialized equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability across multiple building systems, including mechanical and electrical components.
- Strong safety awareness and consistent adherence to safety procedures, regulations, and use of personal protective equipment.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team, managing tasks and priorities during assigned shifts.
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with facility maintenance, building maintenance, and facility repair in complex or secure environments.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems and control circuits, including basic troubleshooting and repair.
- Basic plumbing, drywall, carpentry, and painting skills to support general building maintenance needs.
- Experience installing and maintaining camera systems, card readers, automatic door systems, and access control components.
