Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Toll Equipment Technician II to perform independent troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of roadside toll collection equipment with minimal supervision. This position will be full-time and onsite in Portage, IN.
What You'll Do- Responsible for more complex diagnostics, preventative maintenance execution, and equipment installations while mentoring junior technicians
- Independently responds to and resolves incidents assigned through the incident management system, escalating only significant or complex malfunctions to Toll Maintenance Supervisors or Senior Toll Equipment Technicians
- Determines equipment malfunction to locate the source of trouble and make repairs or adjustments on toll collection equipment including Automatic Toll Payment Machines (ATPMs), Automatic Ticket Issuing Machines (ATIMs), lane controllers, gates, treadles, loops, lasers, and associated peripherals
- Performs comprehensive preventative maintenance involving inspection of equipment elements, cleaning switches, connectors, relay contacts, adjusting printers and other equipment components
- Lifts and handles heavy equipment for repair and maintenance including coin vaults, vault frames, etc. as per maintenance procedures
- Performs daily site inspections including all roadway tolling equipment, canopy and gantry mounted equipment, server racks and included equipment, networking equipment, UPSs, and facility environmental monitors
- Completes corrective and preventative and inventory management forms as required, ensuring accurate documentation in the incident management systems and inventory management systems
- Interprets wiring schematics and diagrams for use in troubleshooting and replacement of electronic and electromechanical parts to place toll equipment into optimum operating condition
- Performs basic equipment hardware installation and cable termination, including coaxial and CAT 5 cabling. Performs basic toll equipment software configuration and network device troubleshooting
- Utilizes various software tools to diagnose and troubleshoot tolling equipment. Performs basic software troubleshooting in Windows and Linux environments
- Performs installation, basic corrective/preventative maintenance, and monitoring of CCTV cameras
- Removes damaged onsite repairable equipment for shipping to bench repair facilities; installs temporary or permanent replacement equipment as required
- Assists Senior Technicians Toll Supervisors with equipment installation and testing at existing and new tolling sites
- Provides training and mentoring to technicians on proper procedures, equipment operation, and troubleshooting techniques
- Available for after-hours on-call rotation for callouts with the ability to travel to affected locations as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
- 2-4 years of experience in electronic equipment maintenance, toll systems, or related field
- Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics, parts diagrams, and technical documentation
- Ability to establish basic test procedures for equipment validation
- Skilled in the use of volt/amp meters, basic network testing tools, and hand tools
- Ability to recognize and identify electronic and electromechanical components
- Knowledge of computer networks principles and basic computer repair
- Knowledge of electronic theory and practical applications
- Basic knowledge of Fiber Optic systems
- Knowledge of CCTV Systems
- Knowledge of toll collection system operations and revenue equipment
- Skilled in oral and written communication
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to mentor and train less experienced technicians
- Ability to work at a height of thirty (30) feet
- Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must pass drug test within 30 calendar days prior to start date
- Must successfully complete and pass all company safety training
- Completion of company-provided advanced toll system training
- Candidate is required to be available for on-call rotation after normal working hours
- Must be available to work assigned shifts (6 AM to 3 PM or 2 PM to 10 PM)
- Must report to work within seven (7) minutes before scheduled shift time
