Overview

The purpose and mission of the Marion County Community Corrections Agency is to improve the lives of citizens in Marion County through community supervision, as an alternative to incarceration, utilizing evidence-based practices and comprehensive case management while cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the citizens of Indianapolis and Marion County.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing and supervising up to 350 residents and the day-to-day security of the Duvall Residential Center and its immediate surroundings. Incumbent in this position is responsible for the operations of the facility, public safety, and client accountability. Incumbent must adhere to evidence-based practices. The incumbent in this position performs the majority of their duties in a correctional residential facility and has a wide latitude to make decisions related to public safety and staff safety, combined with offender safety and accountability to records management, maintenance and retention, dissemination of customer information, and administrative services.

Errors in judgment could cause irreparable consequences, injury or loss of work hours to the agency. Incumbent is on call 24-hours a day, seven (7) days a week. Position reports to the Sr Corrections Officer or Team Leader, Corrections.

Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the daily supervision and security of clients and team-members
  • Responsible for ensuring agency policies and procedures are properly enforced, adhered to, and are consistent with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Ensure internal and external problems, conflicts, and issues are dealt with appropriately through the use of investigation, fact finding, interviews, and analysis of information
  • Ensures the implementation and adherence to evidence-based practices for community corrections including vendors
  • Ensures the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement processes and plans for community corrections
  • Position requires flexibility in scheduling of daily activities and events

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Position physically requires the ability to be active for up to an entire shift and requires the ability to perform safety and security procedures to ensure the safety of residents and team-members. Upon hire, team-member is a Probationary Corrections Officer for 90 days following completion of initial training and certification.

Ability to work with others in a team environment, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with team-members. Ability to regularly work weekend or evening hours, holidays, and occasionally work extended or irregular hours. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications

Associates degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Position physically requires the ability to be active for up to an entire shift and requires the ability to perform safety and security procedures to ensure the safety of residents and team-members. Upon hire, team-member is a Probationary Corrections Officers for 90 days following completion of initial training and certification.
