Bus Monitor
Position
Purpose:
To assist school bus driver in carrying out their responsibilities with respect to transport student to and from school in a safe and timely manner.
Essential Job Functions:
- Monitors must learn the special needs of the children in order to provide safe and comfortable transportation.
- Develop positive respectful relationships with students and staff.
- Observe all mandatory safety rules and regulations.
- Bus monitors assist drivers with the discipline, and overall well-being of the students while students are on the bus.
- Efficiently follow assigned schedule.
- Abide by township policies to include guidelines listed in the Transportation Policy/Procedures Manual.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Equipment:
- Provide boarding assistance to students.
- Training to gain knowledge on the following operating procedures: wheelchair lifts, tie downs, lap belts, assistive devices, and other bus equipment that ensures the safety of students with disabilities.
- Assist the driver in determining or facilitating seating assignments.
Travel Requirements:
- Travels to and from school district buildings, to vehicle service stations, field trip locations and other destinations are required.
Pay Rate: $16.80 per hour.
Work Schedule:
Full time 30-40 hours per week 182 days.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness to help special needs children.
- Effective human relations skills that include a calm and patient personality.
- Ability to possess and positive attitude towards students and staff.
- Ability in adhering to safety rules and practices.
- Ability to read and write.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- Physical Requirement Percentage of Time:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Very Frequent
- Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter. Very Frequent
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation. Very Frequent
- Ability to lift 25 pounds. Occasional
- Ability to carry 25 pounds. Occasional
- Ability to reach in all directions. Very Frequent
License/ Registration/ Certification: N/A
Education:
Ability to read and write.
Experience:
Previous experience in special education is preferred.
