Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In additional to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.

Position Purpose of Inventory Control Specialist II:

The Inventory Control Specialist is an integral part of our Distribution Center Team supporting activity throughout our 300,000 square foot Distribution Center. The Inventory Control Specialist will be responsible for maintaining inventory system accuracy throughout the distribution process, recording and analyzing inventory data, working with all operations departments to validate inventory though out the distribution process and to improve and create processes that will improve inventory accuracy All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Essential Functions of Inventory Control Specialist II:

  • Inventory functions:
    • Investigate inventory issues and enter warehouse activity into our inventory system
    • Work with Operations Manager to resolve issues in a timely manner
    • Complete daily Warehouse Activity Plan (WAP) and print/distribute picks
    • Create and distribute pallet tags as required by warehouse staff
    • Run jet reports to review inventory and investigate/address discrepancies
    • Monitor inventory levels to ensure inventory accuracy is maintained
    • Read and respond to all emails involving inventory control and inventory processes, address and resolve issues in a timely manner
    • Review picking issues/errors presented by staff and provide details to Operations Manager
    • Execute agency return orders for all product returned, crediting agencies and pantries for returned product and returning it to the appropriate staging areas in the warehouse for future orders
  • Operations Support:
    • Provide assistance to Supply Chain Coordinator to ensure inventory is entered accurately and timely into data platform
    • Ensure compliance and adherence to all food safety guidelines according to GFB, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products
    • Visually inspect and restack products on pallets in accordance with food safety specifications
    • Demonstrate understanding of warehouse operations including product receipt, put-away, replenishment, order-fulfillment and shipment
  • Cycle Counting and annual audit:
    • Conduct and oversee a formalized inventory cycle count program to ensure accuracy and integrity
    • Conduct cycle counts of pallets for all departments
    • Restack pallets to ensure accuracy when counting
    • Guide/train associates to assist with cycle counting as needed
    • Double check counts with large variances to ensure accuracy of data entry
    • Adjusts upcoming agency orders as needed pending cycle count adjustments
    • Review and update year end audit processes
    • Work with Accounting Manager to ensure annual audit processes are established
    • Ensure warehouse is in audit-ready state prior to annual audit
    • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience of Inventory Control Specialist II:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Knowledge and experience with RF hardware
  • Experience in inventory preferred
  • Associates or Bachelors desired or relevant experience

Skills and Abilities

of the Inventory Control Specialist II:

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Dynamics Navision experience preferred
