Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Provides assistance and supports to students under the direct supervision of certified personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Supervises and monitors students in a variety of settings and accompanies them as they move about the building.
- Assists certified personnel in organizing and maintaining physical spaces.
- Facilitates the integration of entitled students in typical classrooms and provides social, behavioral, and academic supports in the general education setting, under the direction of certified personnel.
- Assists in presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises in compliance with the student’s IEP.
- Assists students in generalizing and reinforcing skills across settings.
- Provides communication and social skills supports.
- Prepares instructional materials, including reproducing, correcting, and creating materials for bulletin boards.
- Collects and records progress monitoring data using metrics prescribed by students’ IEPs.
- Implements Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and supports students in meeting expectations for appropriate behavior.
- Demonstrates collegiality, cooperation and professionalism with school personnel, students, parents and stakeholders.
- Uses specialized equipment (computers, mobility devices, augmentative communicators, pencil grips, and other devices) to support student needs.
- Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities daily.
- Participates as a team member on building‑level committees and collegial activities within the building and district.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Meets core expectations for all staff as reflected in Iowa Administrative Code, Board Policy, and the district performance evaluation system.
Supervises students during all school‑related activities.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: None specified.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Adheres to safety practices; operates assistive technology devices and equipment; uses standard office equipment and software; prepares and maintains accurate records; understands basic math; reads manuals and writes documents; solves practical problems; works with diverse groups; maintains confidentiality; works in a team; and adapts to changing priorities.
WORKING ENVIRONMENTPhysical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. The job requires approximately 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing with occasional exposure to injury or illness.
COMPENSATIONSalary: $15 per hour.
