QUALIFICATIONS
:

• Valid LSW, LMSW, or LCSW certification
• At least two years of experience as a social worker
• Able to communicate effectively to the students, teachers, parents, and other community members
• Good physical condition with ability to lift 10 pounds

JOB GOAL
:
To serve SCCSD students who are affected by such issues as depression, neglect, child abuse, domestic violence, and mental health by assessing students and gathering relevant information about their cases, providing crisis intervention, and contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitate and consult with school staff on individual case situations when appropriate
• Conduct functional assessments that are intervention-oriented and that consider the environmental context of the problems as they relate to the student’s capacity to receive and/or benefit from instruction
• Communicate with school/district personnel about student needs
• Develop interventions for identified students
• Develop a plan to enhance student learning and participation in school which may include monitoring students with poor attendance__intervening and referring as necessary; functional behavioral assessment; academic improvement planning; behavior support planning; and individual education planning
• Facilitate student and teacher learning on issues such as character education, child abuse, suicide, safety, alcohol/drug abuse, human relationships, communication skills, peer mediation, teen pregnancy, and other mental health/social issues
• Implement individual, group, or system-level interventions that are scientifically proven to promote positive social, emotional, behavioral, and independent functioning outcomes
• Conduct individual and/or group counseling sessions with students and/or parents
• Assist students and their families in the resolution of behavioral, emotional and social needs through school and community resources and referrals
• Develop and maintain partnerships with social work-related community organizations
• Solicit feedback to build, maintain, and improve student, parent and community partnerships
• Consult with faculty, administrators, physicians, psychiatrists, mental health professionals, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and local, state, and federal social service agencies to address student problems for highest student achievement
• Participate in staffing assessment for placing students in appropriate educational programs
• Coordinate with staff to refer students who exhibit at risk behaviors for dropping out of school to dropout prevention programs
• As a member of the crisis response team, organize, facilitate, and provide support services to affected students and school staff during and after a crisis
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
• Ensure that all case files, and other records, strictly comply with policies, regulations, and procedures
• Participate in training, supervision, and meetings
• Actively participate in ongoing training as needed in order to meet all certification standards and credentialing policies
• Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as requested by his/her supervisor(s)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
:
Salary and work year established by SCCSD School Board.

EVALUATION
:
Performance of this job will be evaluated bi-annually by the Superintendent.
