Position Overview
Lead Estimating for a wide range of heavy civil construction projects, including highways, bridges, sound barriers, and underground utilities, across the Inland Empire, High Desert, and Coachella Valley.
Core Responsibilities- Develop accurate, timely bids and cost estimates for projects ranging from $50million to $100million.
- Lead and mentor a team of estimating staff, ensuring development, skill growth, and compliance with Granite standards.
- Review drawings, specifications, site conditions and take‑off quantities, and analyze alternative construction methods to enhance competitiveness.
- Collaborate with field operations and senior management during bid reviews and pre‑construction meetings to validate scope and construction approach.
- Communicate bid information to owners, subcontractors, and public/private entities, maintaining strong business relationships to secure future opportunities.
- Maintain and promote a safety program that meets or exceeds Granite’s annual incident goals and fosters a culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
- Participate in Design‑Build pre‑construction services, providing high‑quality estimates, schedules, and creative inputs into means and methods discussions.
- Utilize cost history, AGTEK take‑off, Primavera P6, and HCSS Heavy Bid software to ensure logical, accurate cost calculations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 10years of estimating experience on heavy civil structures, sound barriers, bridges, and underground utilities.
- Prior managerial or supervisory role required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), AGTEK take‑off, Primavera P6, and HCSS Heavy Bid.
- Advanced knowledge of civil engineering and construction principles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced familiarity with agency DBE requirements.
The position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, using a computer keyboard, occasional reaching with hands and arms, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 50pounds.
