SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of all financial functions within Wellspring Church. This includes budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, audits, banking relationships, payroll oversight, risk management, compliance, and long-term financial planning.
The CFO ensures that church resources are stewarded with integrity, transparency, and accountability while helping leadership make informed financial decisions that support ministry growth and organizational sustainability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESAs a vital team member within the Operations ministry team, you will work closely with the COO. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Financial Leadership & Strategy- Develop and execute financial strategies that align with Wellspring Church’s mission and long-term vision.
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to Executive Leadership and Board/elders as needed.
- Lead long‑range financial forecasting and sustainability planning.
- Analyze trends, risks, and opportunities that impact church growth and financial stability.
- Support major ministry initiatives, capital projects, and expansion planning.
- Lead annual budgeting processes for all departments and ministries.
- Build and maintain forecasting models for revenue, expenses, staffing, and ministry growth.
- Monitor departmental spending and budget adherence.
- Partner with ministry leaders and department heads on financial planning.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Present financial data in a clear, understandable way to leadership.
- Analyze financial statements, cash flow, trends, and operational performance.
- Develop KPI dashboards and reporting metrics for organizational visibility.
- Oversee accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Strengthen internal controls, approval processes, and financial accountability.
- Ensure proper reconciliation practices and documentation.
- Review purchasing, expense management, and financial workflows.
- Improve systems and procedures to reduce risk and increase efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit, church, tax, payroll, and financial regulations.
- Oversee audit preparation and relationships with external auditors.
- Manage risk mitigation practices and financial safeguards.
- Maintain policies related to stewardship, spending, procurement, and financial controls.
- Ensure timely and accurate regulatory filings.
- Manage banking relationships and financial partners.
- Oversee cash flow strategy and liquidity planning.
- Monitor reserve funds and financial stability.
- Support oversight of debt obligations, financing, and capital planning.
- Provide recommendations regarding investment stewardship as applicable.
- Lead and develop finance/accounting personnel.
- Build strong collaboration with Operations, HR, and ministry leadership.
- Help create financial processes that support both ministry effectiveness and operational excellence.
- Promote a culture of integrity, stewardship, and accountability.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial strategy.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and compliance.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and cross‑functional initiatives.
- Strong analytical and strategic decision‑making skills.
- High integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Exceptional communication and executive presence.
- CPA, MBA, or related advanced certification.
- Experience in nonprofit, church, faith‑based, or multi‑entity financial environments.
- Experience with financial systems, ERP/accounting platforms, and process improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with donor stewardship, restricted funds, and nonprofit reporting.
