Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT)

Position Summary

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) provides direct clinical and health-related support to adults residing in residential group homes who may have intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, and/or complex support needs. The LPT is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well‑being of individuals served while working collaboratively with direct support professionals, administrators, behavioral health professionals, nurses, physicians, regional center representatives, and other members of the individual's care team.

The LPT will provide services within the scope of their license and organizational policies and will support the implementation of individualized care, behavioral, medication, and health‑related plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Health & Wellness
  • Monitor and document individuals' general health and well-being.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to changes in physical, behavioral, or mental health status.
  • Communicate significant changes or concerns to appropriate clinical or medical personnel.
  • Assist with routine health monitoring and follow‑up care as directed.
  • Support medical appointments, follow‑up recommendations, and coordination of healthcare services.
  • Maintain appropriate health and safety precautions within the residential setting.
Medication Support
  • Administer medications within the scope of the LPT license, applicable regulations, physician orders, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain accurate medication administration records and related documentation.
  • Monitor individuals for potential medication‑related concerns, adverse reactions, or changes in condition.
  • Communicate medication concerns or discrepancies promptly to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation and coordination with pharmacies and healthcare providers as assigned.
Behavioral Health Support
  • Observe and document behavioral presentation, mood, affect, and significant changes in functioning.
  • Support implementation of approved behavioral support strategies and individualized plans.
  • Assist staff in recognizing behavioral triggers, warning signs, and changes in presentation.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral escalation and emergencies within established crisis prevention and intervention procedures.
  • Maintain professional, trauma‑informed, person‑centered interactions with individuals served.
  • Report significant behavioral or safety concerns to appropriate leadership and clinical personnel.
Documentation & Communication
  • Complete accurate, timely, and objective documentation regarding health, medication, behavioral, and other relevant services.
  • Document incidents, changes in condition, medication concerns, and other reportable events in accordance with organizational requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individual records and protected information.
  • Communicate effectively with residential staff and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in care team meetings and provide relevant observations regarding individuals' health and behavioral needs.
Residential & Team Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), administrators, behavioral staff, nursing/medical providers, and other team members.
  • Provide guidance to residential staff regarding health‑related observations and appropriate escalation of concerns within the LPT's scope.
  • Support staff understanding of individual health, medication, and behavioral needs as appropriate.
