Speech Endorsement (incl. Middle School as needed)
Purpose: To provide sound educational programs for children who cannot sufficiently benefit from regular classroom instruction as a result of disability, as defined by special education criteria. Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communications and speech improvement.

Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with speech and language disabilities.

Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.

Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, and language impairments.

Provides screening to identify children with speech and language disabilities.

Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

Develops and implements Individual Educational Plans for students who qualify for services.

Collaborates regularly with classroom teachers and other school staff to implement therapy by suggesting strategies for the student's daily activities.

Provides information, support, and counsel to parents and families when appropriate.

Provides inservice education to teachers and school staff on topics concerning speech and language.

Keeps thorough and ongoing records for all students receiving therapy, and provides copies of all required paperwork to the Special Education Department.

At the beginning of each school year, provides screening for all students in 2nd grade.

Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.

Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by an administrator.
