6th Grade Ela Teacher

The middle school teacher's job is to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Duties and responsibilities include developing and implementing plans for the curriculum program assigned, preparing lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences, presenting the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Illinois Department of Education, board policies and administrative regulations, planning and using appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned, conducting assessment of student learning styles and using results for instructional activities, working cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students, cooperating with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives and methods according to state requirements, planning and supervising purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), using technologies in the teaching/learning process, assisting students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study, consistently assessing student achievement through formal and informal testing, assuming responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school, presenting a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school, creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students, managing student behavior in the classroom and administering discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities, assisting in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials, establishing and maintaining open lines of communication with students and their parents, maintaining a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members, using acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly, participating in the staff development program, demonstrating interest and initiative in professional improvement, demonstrating behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, keeping informed of and comply with state, city and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers, compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records and other documents required, attending and participating in faculty meetings and serving on staff committees as required.
