The Driver, Trainee Component position will learn essential driver functions, including accurate and timely distribution of products to customer locations and exposure to warehouse and operational functions as part of the developmental process to become a full McLane Driver.

- Maneuver tractor into position to attach trailer and secure lines.
- Drive the truck safely in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Inspect tractor‑trailer equipment for defects before and after each trip and submit DOT inspections.
- Use the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions. Inspect trailers to ensure product is secure for undamaged transport.
- Ride and train with a Driver Trainer to multiple destinations, learning commercial driving regulations and driver skills such as engine start, intersection approach, turns, backing, parking, maneuvering on the road, and at customer premises.
- Maintain driver logs (Manual or People Net) in accordance with DOT regulations, documenting delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions.
- Assist the Driver in unloading trailers and delivering product to customer premises.
- Provide customer service, ensuring on‑time delivery of undamaged product, handling returns, and issuing valid customer credits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Class A CDL in good standing.
- 21 years of age or older.
- Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy.
- Ability and willingness to select, load, unload, and deliver all products that may be ordered by McLane customers.
- Read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bills of lading.
- Perform mathematical calculations to verify product quantities.
- Communicate effectively with customers, management, and teammates.
- Safely drive a tractor‑trailer, use a 2‑wheeled dolly, ramp, and onboard People Net devices.
- Read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job‑related tasks effectively and safely.
