General SummaryMaintain safe driving at all times and high attentiveness with bulk material and hazmat substances. Deliver products on time with efficiency and dependability using strategic driving skills, map and address orientation.
Safety CompliancePromote and comply with Airgas Safety Policies and Operating Procedures, aim for zero vehicle accidents and injuries, attend all safety training classes and monthly safety meetings, and comply with all DOT regulations including required PPE.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Promote and comply with Airgas Safety Policies and Operating Procedures, aim for zero vehicle accidents and injuries, attend all safety training and monthly meetings, and comply with all DOT regulations including PPE usage.
- Report all accidents, possible injuries, safety issues, driving citations, customer complaints, and service interruptions to supervisor immediately.
- Comply with all Facility and corporate policies and procedures and maintain awareness of all Federal, State, Local, and FDA regulations.
- Report suspected regulatory violations to appropriate manager; complete and submit required DOT and company reports; ensure accurate delivery tickets signed and provided to customer.
- Drive tractor‑trailer combination for long distances to transport and off‑load compressed and liquefied industrial gases to customers or storage sites safely, timely, and courteously.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections to identify needed maintenance actions and act appropriately.
- Operate equipment per company or manufacturer guidelines to maximize life cycle and minimize costs; use safety accessories, remote control devices, onboard computers, and audio/visual recording devices when equipped.
- Maintain professional appearance, good hygiene, wear full uniform; exhibit courteousness to customers; act as a product release specialist; report to work as scheduled.
- At least 21 years of age.
- HS Diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Class A commercial driver’s license with tanker and hazmat endorsement for state of domicile.
- Three (3) or more years prior experience as driver of tractor‑trailer vehicles; preferred three (3) years of haz‑mat or tanker experience.
- Product knowledge of cryogenic, compressed and specialty gases preferred.
- Successful completion of DOT written regulations and road tests.
- Computer skills or ability to improve competence.
- Must pass DOT physical including drug screen.
- Remains stationary for extended periods; may traverse office/manufacturing locations; actively listen and exchange information; observe and assess information via computer; use computer, telephone, and operate motor vehicle.
- Accessible to pull own body weight into cab; lift and exert up to 60 pounds; push, turn, pull controls and valves; operate in various environments subject to weather, noise, vibrations, hazards.
- Moderate overnight travel; ability to perform layovers.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Works at and travels to various Airgas and customer sites with varying climates, weather, and layouts.
