Position SummarySupports the development and documentation of mechanical systems, including detail design, spatial integration, and modification of mechanisms. Provides technical documentation and high‑level requirements for aerospace and commercial aviation components, such as pneumatic, mechanical, and electro‑mechanical devices. Works under limited supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Lead research on technical, operational, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer.
- Assess and resolve product/process issues throughout the product lifecycle.
- Direct cross‑functional teams to perform root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non‑conformances.
- Conduct detailed design work, assembly layout, and create drawings and solid models in CATIA or equivalent.
- Oversee documentation of hardware‑related issues.
- Support development, maintenance, or modification of system, component, and installation designs to provide design documentation.
- Perform and document analyses to validate that systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
- Provide ongoing technical support for products in production.
- Design and review component layouts, calculate stack‑ups, and prepare supporting documentation to ensure objectives and budgets are achieved.
- Review completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
- Write technical reports and support conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design reviews.
- Support proposal preparation and new business development efforts.
- Lead and direct activities to validate and verify mechanical and system requirements.
- Train, coach, and mentor others.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and at least 12 years of experience in design, analysis, or development for military or commercial aviation.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes for aerospace components, including forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, and N/C programming.
- Experience with concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly (DFM/DFA), and structural analysis by hand and finite element methods.
- Proficiency in CAD, preferably CATIA, and familiarity with PDM Smart Team.
- Ability to create detail, assembly, interface, and source‑control drawings per ASME Y14.100‑LATEST.
- Expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5‑LATEST) and stack‑up analysis.
- Knowledge of aerospace material properties, heat‑treat and coating processes.
- Experience with 3D printing (PLA, composite, or metal) is an advantage.
- Basic measurement and inspection skills.
- Familiarity with military standards and ITAR compliance (AS9100 & ITAR).
- Fluent in written and spoken English; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Proof of education required.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Medium‑to‑large office environment.
- Flexible to work in a fast‑paced group or individual setting.
- Moderate noise level.
- Typed office type environments.
Base Salary Range (Inglewood only): $120,000 to $140,000
