The Chemist plays a key role in a laboratory-focused environment by collecting and testing chemical compounds and samples, performing analytical screening and quality control procedures, and ensuring strict compliance with environmental health and safety standards. This position involves operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation, accurately recording data in waste management and laboratory systems, and supporting overall laboratory operations through careful sample handling, inventory control, and adherence to established standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities- Collect and test chemical compounds and samples in accordance with permit requirements, using approved analytical methods and techniques.
- Enter quantities, volumes, and analytical results accurately into waste management software and other laboratory data systems.
- Perform QA/QC analytical screening parameters as required by permits and follow all approved laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety standards, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemical agents and samples.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation to ensure reliable performance and accurate results.
- Maintain laboratory reagents and inventory, including tracking usage and ensuring adequate stock of materials.
- Handle, label, and store samples appropriately to preserve integrity and traceability throughout the testing process.
- Perform data entry, documentation, and filing related to analytical results and laboratory activities in an organized and timely manner.
- Support quality control and quality assurance processes by following established procedures and reporting any deviations or issues.
- Carry out associated administrative activities related to laboratory operations, including record keeping and documentation for audits and compliance.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management to support laboratory and operational needs.
- Hands-on experience in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environments.
- Strong background in analytical chemistry, including routine laboratory testing and analysis.
- Solid understanding of quality control and quality assurance processes in a laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in operating analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, and GCMS.
- Ability to accurately enter and manage data in waste management software and other laboratory systems.
- Skill in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure consistent and accurate performance.
- Capability to follow detailed laboratory SOPs and permit requirements with high attention to detail.
- Knowledge of proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for chemical agents and laboratory samples.
- Experience with inventory control for laboratory reagents and consumables.
- Ability to maintain samples and instruments in good condition while supporting ongoing analytical workflows.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
- Familiarity with analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, and GCMS.
- Experience with inventory control processes for laboratory reagents and supplies.
- Ability to perform accurate data entry and maintain organized records and documentation.
- Familiarity with analytical equipment usage and related filing and administrative activities.
- Comfort working with a variety of analytical chemistry techniques and laboratory technologies.
Work is conducted in a laboratory-focused setting that emphasizes analytical chemistry and the use of instruments such as HPLC, GC, and GCMS. The role operates primarily on a second shift schedule from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the possibility that training may occur during morning hours. The laboratory environment prioritizes employee health and safety, with established procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of chemical agents.
