The Building Engineer will operate, maintain, and care for all Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC and Plumbing aspects of the facility. In conjunction with the VP of Arena Operations, establish a high level of facility appearance, functionality and operational standards that will firmly establish the reputation and status of the Kia Forum as a premier entertainment facility. The Building Engineer will be the key management contact for all building engineering functions during events.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance for the facility including all electrical equipment, mechanical, refrigeration, and HVAC plumbing.
- Operate and maintain all components of the electrical, plumbing and HVAC equipment.
- Inspect and make necessary repairs as needed to electrical systems, pumps, motors, compressors, and plumbing.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable building codes and regulations.
- Be familiar with all infrastructural aspects of the building.
- Under the supervision of the LAFD Fire Marshal and Chief Engineer, must be familiar with and maintain building sprinkler, standpipe, smoke purge, and emergency exit lighting systems. Must have working knowledge of the fire panel.
- Must be knowledgeable of building exits and paths of egress and ensure both are always kept clear.
- Operate the automated Fire Alarm system and respond to alarms and emergency situations. Assist LAFD with knowledge of facility particularly related to Life Safety Systems and planning.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Familiarity with event schedule and provide support for event requirements, as needed.
- 2-4 years’ experience working in a public assembly facility preferred.
- Have a diverse and strong technical background in all mechanical areas in both operating and troubleshooting.
- EPA 608 certification preferred.
- Experience as a Facility Maintenance Engineer preferred.
- Experience with Facility BMS Systems such as Lighting and HVAC controls and scheduling preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Skilled at working collaboratively in a team environment and able to take direction from Management.
- Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group.
- Strong interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
- Ability to prioritize, problem solve and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to maintain, service and take an analytical approach to trouble shooting and repairing refrigeration compressors, package units, commercial food service refrigeration equipment, building systems pumps, 3 phase motors, and AC electrical distribution panels.
- Plumbing abilities include sweating and brazing, ability to cut and install no hub, copper, galvanized and black iron pipe, as well as installation of plumbing fixture, e.g., toilets, sinks, urinals, and faucets. Must be able to use a mechanical snake to clear main line sewer stoppages.
- Electrical troubleshooting with basic knowledge of how an electrical circuit works.
- Assist with carpentry, welding, and metal fabrication.
- This position will play a key role in managing energy and utility consumption within the venue.
Target salary range for this role is $30 to $35 per hour depending on experience. This position is a non‑exempt role and considered full‑time.
