Skilled Maintenance – Lead Irrigation and Grounds Specialist
Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee, the Skilled Maintenance – Lead Irrigation and Grounds Specialist performs advanced journey-level irrigation and grounds maintenance work while serving as the lead over irrigation and grounds operations; coordinates, assigns, prioritizes, and reviews work orders; provides technical guidance, training, and quality assurance; and ensures systems, equipment, and projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and District expectations.
In support of efficient operations and timely completion of District priorities, incumbents may be assigned to assist other skilled maintenance trades or functional areas on projects or work assignments outside of their primary specialty. Such assignments are performed consistent with the employee's skills, training, certifications, and safety requirements, and may include collaborative, cross-trade project work as needed to meet operational demands while supporting a team-based, service-oriented maintenance model focused on efficiency, timely service delivery, operational consistency, and continuous improvement in support of safe and functional learning environments.
Supervision is received from the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee. This classification provides functional lead direction, technical guidance, and work coordination to assigned staff but does not exercise formal supervisory authority.
The Skilled Maintenance – Lead Irrigation and Grounds Specialist is the advanced journey-level classification that performs the most complex and specialized irrigation and grounds work while providing functional leadership over irrigation and grounds operations. Incumbents are responsible for assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing work orders; coordinating workflow; and providing technical guidance to staff to ensure quality, consistency, and timely completion of work.
Incumbents are also responsible for coordinating cross-trade collaboration and supporting department-wide operations, including assigning or participating in multi-trade projects and ensuring staff resources are utilized effectively to meet operational priorities. This role promotes a team-based approach to maintenance services and ensures that work is completed efficiently regardless of trade boundaries, consistent with employee qualifications and safety requirements. This classification is distinguished from the Skilled Maintenance – Irrigation and Grounds Specialist by its responsibility for ongoing coordination, assignment, prioritization, and review of work across staff and projects, as well as accountability for workflow, quality, and operational efficiency across projects and assignments, but does not exercise formal supervisory authority such as hiring, discipline, or evaluation.
